Soapbox Racers

Soapbox Racers

Driving 80 miles per hour in a Soapbox Racer is absurd. You will quickly crash. Accelerate your Soapbox Racer from 10 mph up to 30 mph. You will rejoice at going 30 mph. But your main energy should be on accelerating your areas of giftedness, not your areas of limitation.

At the 2018 XP-Seminar, David Fletcher gave a keynote on Start Your Engines: Maximizing Speed for
Business Brain or Pastoral Heart. The imagery was from Soapbox Racers, Trucks and Speed Racers.

Only one Person was super gifted at both Business Brain and Pastoral Heart. Read the parables to see how sharp Jesus is. Since you are not Jesus, chances are 100% that
you are strong in either
Business Brain or Pastoral Heart—but not both.

Are you a Soapbox Racer in your Business Brain or in your Pastoral Heart?

Soapbox Racer

We all have lanes where “we don’t drive very fast.”

These lanes take more work, longer hours … and yet the results aren’t as good as what others can do.

The problem is when we don’t recognize our slow lanes.

The Pastoral Heart

You care deeply for people. You want to counsel, coach and mentor others. You want to be with them in their challenges, hurts and pain. You are a naturally gifted shepherd.

I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will lead you with knowledge and understanding.
Jeremiah 3:15 NIV®

The Business Brain

You have strong overseeing abilities. You want to bring organizational security and grow the church. Money is a tool to be well invested in strategic ministry. You want others to maximize their skills. You are a naturally-gifted organizational leader.

But choose from the people capable men, God-fearing, men of truth, those who hate bribes, and put them over the people.
