Hey Fletch … I am looking to improve and learn additional skills to become an XP. In the mean time, is it appropriate to apply for an XP position?

DRF—I applaud that you want to learn more about the XP role. It is a multidimensional role and complicated. The XP role can entail overseeing all staff, operations, governing boards, finances, insurance, HR, legal, ministry strategy, campus safety, and the list goes on.

On XPastor, you can click on the “Education” menu and see various ways to grow in the XP role. This would be a good place to hone your skills.

There are several factors that you need to consider in applying for an XP position:

  • Your years of ministry experience and the breadth of that experience.
  • Your years of experience with church operations and governing boards.
  • Your knowledge of how churches of different sizes and how XPs fit the needs of those churches.

Depending on these factors, applying for an XP role could be a great experience for you. Your God-given gifts and current ministry experience could make you a great fit for a church. Or, the interview process may show areas that you need to grow in.
