Year-end letters are vital to the life of your people and church. They can share stories of ministry and remind people of God’s great work during the year.

A number of years ago, my former church was in the middle of a difficult church transition. I saw David Fletcher as executive pastor draft an end-of-year letter that was colorful and celebratory. It had specific stories of God at work. The letter was uplifting to the congregation and gave hope for the future.

Now, we are into our first holiday season as a church plant! We started Formation Church in the summer of 2023 and now it is December. God has blessed us so far! It is my time to spearhead an end-of-year letter.

Any new church plant is high risk. It has the task of building trust with the new congregants especially in the area of giving and accountability. So we took a stab at writing a simple, low-cost letter. The letter essentially became a year-end report and we mailed it to each donor with their statement of giving.

Without specifically appealing for funds, the people have been amazingly generous. God is at work. I am humbled and thrilled to be a part of this new expression of God’s Kingdom in this community.

May our letter (see below) encourage you to share vision and ministry at the end of the calendar year!
