About Mike Harris
Mike is Lead Pastor and Cultural Architect of The Journey, a 4 year old innovative faith community in the northern suburbs of Detroit. The Journey is a missional church committed to the New Testament ideals of faith, love, and hope. Mike believes it to be normal for anyone following Jesus to live by faith, to love extravagantly, and to speak words of hope. One of Mike’s favorite phrases is, “God put us here to make this world a better place.”
The Journey, under Mike’s leadership, breeds an ethos of missional living. It is normal to see Journey people serving in a variety of community based organizations, or special needs activities. In the summer, over ½ the church use their vacation time to participate in mission trips such as continuing the rebuilding efforts in the gulf coast from Hurricane Katrina, serving the poor in Trinidad, or providing medical relief to a remote tribe in Kenya. The Journey is also planting a new church in the remote village of Kapilakin, Kenya. Recently Mike raised over $20,000 to drill a well in the heart of this village, and he is planning his 3rd trip this October to continue pouring into this partner church.
Mike is passionate about church planting and mentoring the next generation of leaders, and serves as a church planting coach with Vision 360 in the Detroit area. In addition, Mike is part of the navigating team with the International Mentoring Network (IMN), a global network of Kingdom Operatives engaged in a 21st century effort to topple the status quo wherever it opposes true humanity and hinders the life-transformative way of Jesus Christ.
Mike, his wife Beth, and their two daughters live in Clarkston, Michigan.
