On November 15, 2024 a Texas federal judge rolled back the Department of Labor’s salary threshold for managers to $35,568. The level had gone up to $43,888 on July 1, 2024 and was scheduled to increase to $58,656 on January 1, 2025.
This is a huge change for churches and their management staff. We will discuss the definition of a manger, what happened in the court proceedings, and possible legal appeals.
There are lots of questions around this hot issue. What should you do with people scheduled to get a raise on January 1—that is a million dollar question. Do you change pay for those who already received an increase? What will happen if the regulation is reinstated and will you have to retroactively pay managers at the higher levels?
