Momentum is strong at Sojourn Church Midtown, in Louisville, Kentucky. They are seeking an experienced leader to join their team as its next Executive Pastor. Planted in 2000, Sojourn Church Midtown is nestled in the urban Louisville neighborhood of Shelby Park. This congregation is distinctly urban, multi-ethnic, and has a passion for the arts and community of which they are a part. This is a sending church, committed to training people up and sending them out on mission. Lead Pastor Dr. Jamaal Williams has served in his role for nine years and is eager to welcome a ministry partner into this role of Executive Pastor. Jamaal is known for his personal integrity, biblical preaching and passion to see a multi-ethnic ministry cultivated at Sojourn. He is the author of the book, In Church as it is in Heaven, which speaks to his guiding vision for the church.

The church offers two identical services on Sundays at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. Services also are broadcast in Spanish and Korean. Communion is taken weekly, and Sojourn Midtown has a distinct ability of incorporating meaningful liturgy, hymns, original music as well as current worship music with the help of an energetic worship staff. This is a vibrant community, full of people from all ages, but especially young families, including over 130 children. There is a renewed sense of vision amongst leadership to invest in discipleship and activate sojourners of all ages and stages of life to be ambassadors of the gospel in their spheres of influence.

The Candidate

The right Executive Pastor at Sojourn will be an experienced organizational leader, a gifted problem-solver, and will carry a strong financial acumen. This person will build confidence in those around him and take great joy in seeing the team succeed. This will be a leader that is able to identify gifts and talent in others and develop it. The Sojourn staff will welcome a leader that is culturally curious and desires to know them and the unique journey of this congregation and staff team. This is a highly competent, theologically informed, and deeply convicted staff team ready to be coalesced and leveraged for the Kingdom calling before them. The right Executive Pastor will understand how to organize people and teams, helping them to become more together than they could be individually. Most importantly, this person will be a passionate, devoted follower of Jesus who emanates personal integrity, discernment and humility who is called to lead from “the second chair.”

Louisville is a thriving, colorful city. The University of Louisville, University of Indiana Southeast and Southern Baptist Seminary as well as other colleges welcome tens of thousands of students to the city each year. There is tremendous energy around U of L sports, incredible international food, barbecue and beautiful art that literally covers the city. There is a growing population of immigrants, bringing new opportunities for ministry and greater cultural diversity to the city. Louisville is growing and welcoming new businesses because of its affordability and very low personal income tax.

The Qualifications

Clear theological alignment with the Harbor Network and Southern Baptist Convention and resonate with the renewed mission and vision of Sojourn Midtown.
