Hey Fletch … Do you have a resource or a template for writing job descriptions?

DRF—In churches there are three types of job descriptions. They can all look fairly similar, but need to contain specific data points.

For non-exempt staff, the job description must align with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). These employees must document their time, take rest and meal breaks, etc. The job description doesn’t need to show the FLSA requirements, but it cannot violate them either.

For exempt administrative and managerial staff, the job description needs to show the rationale for their exemption from the FLSA.

For pastors and ministry workers, they must be licensed, commissioned or ordained. These staff are automatically exempt from the FLSA and many other federal and state requirements.

XPastor has many ministry job descriptions posted. Take a look at this page. I always like to see percentages of time in any job description. It helps set expectations for how a person should invest their time!
