National XP-Days April 16-17, 2007

David Fletcher
Founder & Host XPastor

Ken Warren

Bill Hendricks

Come for one or two days!

We only do this once a year - and our XP-Days are quite popular. Space is limited to a maximum of 20 people, so enroll today ... don't say we didn't warn you if it is full when you want to enroll.

Our XP-Days bring together a small group of XPs to talk about relevant issues. We don't examine monotonous programs or extol the size of our churches. We hone our skills through life-on-life discussion.

The National XP-Days are open to anyone with the XP function in their ministry. By drawing ministers from around the nation, these discussions challenge cultural perspectives and promote a broad understanding of the XP. National XP-Days are led by Dr. Fletcher.

National XP-Days are limited to 20 XPs to foster close discussion on pertinent XP topics. Authentic interaction is key. Don't bring pride about the size of your church or pretense in the extent of your ministry.

Our schedule follows the format of major presentations on core issues, followed by large group discussion and small group interaction. Several sessions are left open-ended, enabling each participant to bring questions for the group to examine.

Cost: $150 (per day) includes books and lunch.

Please pay the event fee by credit card

The XP as Mentor

We all have an idea that the XP mentors paid staff, but how about utilizing and empowering volunteer staff? Ken Warren is excellent. He sees his role as being the "pastor to the staff," and he has an extremely large staff in a church with Sunday worship of 4000. Mentors often ...

  • Evaluate job descriptions for all staff
  • Exhort staff as deemed necessary
  • Hire and terminate staff
  • Mentor key staff
  • Recruit staff
  • Run staff meeting and retreats
  • Supervise all staff
  • Work as the Chief of Staff

The XP as Catalyst

The Catalyst function invigorates existing ministry or begins new ones. The Catalyst empowers members to be involved in ministry, often asking: "Who is on the bus and who is in the right seat?" Led by Bill Hendricks, founder of The Giftedness Center. Catalysts often ...

  • Start new ministries
  • Challenge people to improve
  • Create a strategic plan
  • Empower members to be involved
  • Encourage folks to volunteer
  • Envision future ministry
  • Equip members for ministry
  • Light fires to instigate change
  • Motivate people to get involved
  • Network ministries to enhance effectiveness

The XP as Administrator

The Administrator generally functions as the Chief Executive Officer, being a liaison between the governing board and others.

Ray will share about "Managing the Team of Consultants in a Building Project." Applicable to those who are constructing a building and all of us who work with paid consultants and church volunteers.

Other aspects of the Administrator: The Administrator determines staff compensation and ensures that budget development is aligned with vision and receives advice on legal and insurance issues (this is a military model where the Sr. Pastor is akin to the commanding officer and the XP is the executive officer). The Administrator can serve as a Chief Operating Officer or have a subordinate COO, delegating building management, guiding the master planning process and facilitating hiring architects and contractors. The Administrator can operate as the Chief Financial Officer or have a subordinate CFO, often representing church-wide finances to the governing board and directing capital campaigns to fund new buildings.

11:00

The XP as Overseer

As stated about the Administrator Function, "the Administrator and Overseer Functions are two halves of the same pie. The Administrator is the Manager while the Overseer is the Leader (now the difference between manager and leader is a thorny one in literature on executives). The Administrator ensures that the engine is running at full capacity while the Overseer ensures that the car is moving the right direction.

The Overseer attends meetings of the governing board, perhaps as a member. A key aspect of the Overseer is to implement the policies of the governing board. The Overseer monitors every ministry for the Sr. Pastor and governing board and often guards and gives advice on the schedule of the Sr. Pastor. The Overseer oversees all church ministries, managing ministry by delegated responsibility. A key aspect is that the Overseer implements the vision of the Sr. Pastor and fills the position as the "second in command" to the Sr. Pastor.
