Focused XP-Day on Peacemaking
February 12, 2005 Houston Texas
Churches often experience conflict. Are you prepared to resolve conflict in a biblical manner? What kind of training have you had in resolving conflict?
Most seminaries have next to no training in peacemaking. Utilizing the excellent materials from Peacemaker Ministries, and "The Peacemaker" by Ken Sande, this day will teach the "7 A's of confession:"
- Address everyone involved (All those whom you affected)
- Avoid if, but, and maybe (Do not try to excuse your wrongs)
- Admit specifically (Both attitudes and actions)
- Acknowledge the hurt (Express sorrow for hurting someone)
- Accept the consequences (Such as making restitution)
- Alter your behavior (Change your attitudes and actions)
- Ask for forgiveness
We see conflict as an opportunity. We can let God work through us in a conflict to:
- Glorify God (by trusting, obeying, and imitating him)
- Serve other people (by helping to bear their burdens or by confronting them in love)
- Grow to be like Christ (by confessing sin and turning from attitudes that promote conflict).
