Valley Creek Church is a fast growing church in the northern Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Located in the highly desirable family community of Flower Mound, Valley Creek Church currently averages 1300+ in three weekend worship services. This young, family-oriented church with new facilities is seeking its first Executive Pastor that is eager for the challenge of taking a growing and vibrant church to the next level in every aspect of ministry to the community, the nation, and the world.
The Executive Pastor is to be someone of mature Christian character and proven leadership. This person will serve as the primary partner of the Senior Pastor, who functions as the visionary leader, catalyst and communicator for the congregation, in directing the biblical mission of the church. The Executive Pastor will contribute significantly by adding structure and detail to the pastor's vision and the future of the church. The Executive Pastor will be responsible to oversee and administrate the implementation of this vision through the ministries and staff of the church. The Executive Pastor serves to complement and assist the Senior Pastor who functions as a catalyst and minister.
Qualifications:
- Passionate love and faith in Jesus Christ
- Excellent skills in staff management, conflict resolution and personal communication
- Minimum of 2 years experience in church staff leadership in a church of 750+ in weekly attendance
- Minimum of 2 years experience with developing and managing annual budgets in excess of $2 million
- At least 2 years experience leading 5+ staff members

Church & Community:
Valley Creek Church is a family-friendly, mildly charismatic church that prioritizes the Scriptures, authenticity and excellence. VCC seeks to balance the Word and Spirit toward the goal of transformed lives. The founding pastor began the church nearly 14 years ago. The pastor is an ENFP, "ideas machine" who is a transparent communicator. The church is staff-led with input from elders and deacons. Facilities include 42K' worship space, nursery/preschool, offices (2002); 20K' of nursery/children/student space (2006); 600 parking places; 4 acre pond; and available land for expansion with new worship center/fellowship area/offices in the near future. Current staff includes 7 pastors and approximately 20 additional staff members. Annual budget is approximately $2.7 mil; with $3.5 mil indebtedness. Easter '06 attendance was 2600+. There are approximately 75 small groups for adults. VCC is located on the city's major thoroughfare, adjacent to new regional shopping centers, on 24 acres of land. Surrounding communities include Highland Village, Lewisville, Corinth and Lantana.
Job Description
Reports to:Senior Pastor
Purpose: The Executive Pastor is to be a man of mature Christian character and proven leadership. He will serve as the primary partner of the Senior Pastor, who functions as the chief visionary, spokesman and spiritual leader for the congregation, in carrying out the mission of the church consistent with biblical values. The Executive Pastor will contribute significantly by adding structure, detail and contribution to the pastor's vision and the future of the church. The Executive Pastor will be responsible for providing leadership in the administrating and overseeing implementation of this vision through the ministries of the church. The Executive pastor serves to complement and assist, not replace, the Senior Pastor; thus freeing him of administrative and detailed oversight of the church's staff and individual ministries.
The Executive Pastor will be responsible for leading and optimizing the church's financial and human resources by managing the day‑to‑day ministry consistent with biblical principles, the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the leadership of the Senior Pastor. Key issues in which he will work will include (but not limited to):
- Recruiting highly qualified individuals for staff leadership;
- Coaching, mentoring and developing the staff for optimal effectiveness and growth;
- Leading the staff to develop strategic plans for implementing the vision of the church by developing short and long term plans to establish objectives and goals consistent with the church's vision and values and lead efforts to meet deadlines and develop and provide methods for evaluating and tracking progress;
- Communicating a detailed interpretation of the vision of the church to the staff, deacons, elders and church body while maintaining effective and growing relationships;
Essential Functions:
1. Developing Partnership with the Senior Pastor (20%)
- Communicate encouragement and loyalty to the Senior Pastor
- Partner with the Senior Pastor to seek opportunities and challenges for developing mutual spiritual growth and ministry effectiveness.
- Build confidence and respect through reliable leadership, detailed follow-through, resolving conflicts, and effective communication.
- Initiate and maintain daily communication with the Senior Pastor regarding issues concerning the church staff, congregation and ministries.
- Comprehend, contribute to, refine and interpret the Senior Pastor's vision to the church staff.
- Enable the Senior Pastor to deepen his time with God and family, develop leaders, assimilate newcomers, discern God's vision and direction, and spend time in prayer/preparation for teaching by removing other responsibilities from his daily activities.
- Serve as an effective complement between the Senior Pastor, the elders and the deacons.
2. Providing Leadership (with #3 & #4 60%)
- Mentor the staff via spending time, helping with direction, providing challenges leading to personal growth, listening to concerns, serving as a trusted, understanding and confidential force with the ultimate outcome of developing and reinforcing the strengths of the individual staff members, empowering them for maximum effectiveness.
- Provide training, support, encouragement and correction to the staff as necessary.
3. Providing Management
- Facilitate collaboration with the staff in determining optimal achievement of the church's vision and goals.
- Provide excellent management, accountability and evaluation of the staff on a daily basis.
- Develop, update and maintain, in cooperation with the pastor, staff and church leaders, a clear, one-year and three-year strategic plan.
- Develop, in cooperation with the pastor and staff, a detailed, annual process to achieve the church's vision and goals. Utilize the goals, plans and deadlines as a weekly reference point with the staff.
4. Providing Administration and Oversight of the church ministry:
- Direct the church staff to provide effective evangelism and discipleship ministries that impact families in southern Denton County.
- Insure that the church ministries are effectively assimilating newcomers, nurturing members' faith, equipping and empowering members for ministry, developing leaders and participating in discipling nations.
- Oversee budget development, budget adherence and cash flow with financial director.
- Identify and implement means to increase efficiency of church staff and ministries.
- Refine policies and procedures.
- Oversee the recruiting, selection, training, development, evaluation, and termination of present and future staff.
- Oversee development and maintenance of church property and facilities with facilities director.
- Oversee all aspects of any issues which require legal resources on behalf of the church or staff.
5. Serving the Church Family as a Pastor (with #5 20%)
- Demonstrate a Christ-like example to the church family.
- Assist the Senior Pastor in promoting a balance of the Word and Spirit.
- Assist the Senior Pastor in providing instruction, guidance, prayer, protection, correction, support and nurture for the church family.
- Oversee baptism, the Lord's Supper, weddings and funerals for the church body.
- Oversee the pastoral care and counseling of the church.
- Function as a small group leader within the church family.
- Affirm the five commitments asked of all Valley Creek Church volunteer leaders: assurance of salvation and baptism; daily time with God for bible study and prayer; participation in a small group; reaching out to non-Christians identified on one's "impact list;" tithing one's income to VCC.
- Participate in all other responsibilities as leadership needs demands.
6. Seeking Personal and Spiritual Growth
- Grow as a follower of Christ and in all the roles God has placed you, i.e. husband, father, friend, pastor, employee, etc.
- Effectively manage time to provide for healthy and consistent perspectives.
- Pursue both personal continuing education and spiritual renewal as agreed upon with the Senior Pastor.
