Located in the heart of the Fraser Valley, Northview is a dynamic church with approximately 2,100 attending the three contemporary weekly worship services. We are currently looking to fill the following position to complement the existing pastoral staff of ten.
Northview Community Church is looking for an Executive Pastor (reporting to the Lead Pastor) to be part of our two person senior leadership team that will be instrumental in mapping and implementing our vision. The Pastor called to this position will need the spiritual maturity, significant experience, and spiritual giftedness to provide leadership to Northview. It would be preferred for a candidate to have a graduate degree in ministry, have experience in pastoral ministry, church administration and the areas of strategic planning and implementation, and possess skills in personnel management and team development.
Work Description
Ministry Context
The person called to this ministry must be in agreement with Northview’s confession of faith,
mission, vision, core values and must have a passion for the ministry of the church. The
incumbent must also have the qualifications of an Elder, as outlined in I Timothy 3.
Primary Focus
- The Executive Pastor:
- Will be a member of the 2-member senior leadership team composed of the Lead Pastor and Executive Pastor.
- Will assume the responsibilities of drawing all ministries into the big picture of Northview Community Church in the context of its philosophy of ministry;
- Will oversee the Pastors and interface with all other staff ministry team members and other teams of the church as required.
Specific Responsibilities
Mapping Church Vision: Development of strategies to facilitate the mission and vision of
Northview by:
- On-going evaluation of present ministries and programs.
- Implementing change based on on-going evaluation.
- Facilitating the development of strategic initiatives for new ministry directions.
- Development of annual strategic/ministry plan with the senior leadership team.
- Implementing Church Vision: in the context of Northview’s philosophy of ministry to
implement our church vision by:
- Servant leadership to all departments of the church.
- Ensuring that Departments equip & serve our church family to better accomplish our mission.
- Regular communication with the Lead Pastor, Board, staff and church family of progress with respect to objectives in the annual strategic/ministry plan.
- Staff Development
- Oversee development of support services paid staff teams by:
- Being responsible for hiring, ongoing training, evaluation and support of team members
- Coordinating support staffing
- Oversee the day-to-day operation of the office
Management
- Finance
- Staff member of the Stewardship Committee: a) Develop agenda in connection with committee chair/Senior Pastor: b) Prepare reports and proposals based on staff and committee input
- Oversee development and administration of annual budgets
- Oversee the formulation and implementation of any fund raising programs
- Prepare long range financial plans to facilitate church-approved goals
- Oversee day to day financial operations
- Prepare monthly and annual financial reports
- Oversee annual outside financial review
- Provide administrative support of Capital Campaign Committee
- Oversee offering count process and ensure good cash-handling processes are in place and followed.
- Personnel
- Develop and oversee employment policy and agreements
- Responsible for oversight of semi-monthly payroll preparation, including all required reporting
- Oversee "new hire" information-gathering, reference and background checks, and training
- Complete regular staff evaluations
- Oversee and administrate all employee benefits programs
- Facility
- Oversee the Facility Manager in carrying out their duties to Northview facilities.
- Development
- Oversee administrative functions of future building expansion or renovation projects including the fund development and construction phases.
- Staff member on Capital Campaign Committee
- Develop agenda in connection with committee chair
- Prepare reports and proposals based on staff and committee input
- Administrate capital campaigns including pledge follow-up and accounting

- Develop agenda in connection with committee chair

- Information systems
- Oversee the Information Systems contractors in carrying out their duties related to the ongoing development of required information systems to assist in efficient ministry operations including:
- In-house networked computer system, including remote access
- Church database
- Office, church and management software
- Communication
- Oversee Communications:
- General Northview internal and external communications
- Promotion and advertising
- General administration
- Draft policy on management, administrative and fiscal matters based on CoE and
related committees input.
- Oversee the Constitution and policy updates as necessary.
- OTHER PASTORAL DUTIES: to pastor and lead our congregation by:
- Preaching, teaching & speaking as requested by the Lead Pastor.
- Attending Board & Committee meetings as requested
- Attending Pastoral and staff meetings as required
- Other pastoral duties such as counselling, weddings, funerals, visitations etc as required
- Any other duties that may be required from time to time
- Counsel individuals with financial needs as required
Qualifications
- It would be preferred for the candidate to have:
- Graduate degree related to field of studies in church ministries and for leadership.
- Significant experience in pastoral ministry and the areas of strategic planning and implementation.
- Skills in personnel management and team development flowing from a pastoral heart.
- Demonstrated management abilities for a large organization.
- Agreement with Northview’s confession of faith and philosophy of ministry.
- Has a reputation of living a lifestyle that honors and uplifts the name of Christ.
- The incumbent must make Northview Community Church their home church.
