History

From the start, the purpose of MBCC has been to reach our community with the good news of Jesus Christ. The first service was held in the home of one of our members in April 1992. The following Sunday, Easter, the church moved to Mountain Brook Junior High School where we began meeting in the lunchroom. When the Montevallo Road facility became available, the church made the move and held its first services there in November 1992.

This campus enabled us to grow, develop our vision, clarify our mission and establish a strong foundation for ministry. Although the facility served us well, our church family grew to the point where we needed a new home. After much prayer and waiting on the Lord, He eventually opened the door for us to purchase the campus of Southeastern Bible College on Highway 280 East. Once again it was time for us to step out of our comfort zone and follow the Lord in faith. On October 10th, 2004, we moved into our current location.

Over the past eleven years of ministry at MBCC we have seen God's hand of blessing in many ways. The church has grown from 250 to approximately 1400. The staff has grown from 3 to 26 and the mission's family has grown from 2 to 34. Annual giving has increased from approximately $400,000 to $4 million.

However, more exciting that the numerical growth is the spiritual growth in the lives of people. Our desire and passion is to equip God's people and ignite a passion within them to wholeheartedly pursue God and His purpose for their lives.

In 1995, God called Tim Kallam to be the Senior Pastor of Mountain Brook Community Church. Tim is a graduate of Northeastern Bible College and Dallas Theological Seminary. He served on the pastoral staffs of churches in South Carolina, Texas and Georgia before accepting the call as Senior Pastor. Tim is married to Christi and has two children, Ben (19) and Katie (16).
