The Opportunity Setting
Glenkirk Church is committed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the giving of our time, energies and resources to fulfilling the Great Commission. Glenkirk was part of the "Confessing Church Movement" and recently reaffirmed its support of the current Book Of Order and Confessions. A high percentage of church members do not have a Presbyterian background and hold some reservations about the direction of the larger Presbyterian Church USA. Strong biblical preaching and teaching is critically important to us.
There is a great desire to reach people beyond the walls of the Church and reach out to those who do not have a great interest in the Christian life. Our leaders are willing to discuss changes and implement elements of new church growth concepts. Glenkirk has a commitment to examine and incorporate elements from other church movements such as the Willow Creek Association and has implemented many of their principles and programs in the past several years. There is a focus on individual evangelism that regularly leads to many conversions.
Both Fuller Theological Seminary and Azusa Pacific University are local institutions that provide excellent theological libraries and many ministry related resources and professional contacts that partner with Glenkirk. Finally, building meaningful relationships within our congregation and creating more effective outreach to our community are essential.
