XP-Seminar 2009

"Things I loved, that connected with me"

  • Hearing how others do things
  • Being with peers—thanks for providing the venue
  • The case study method and the topic selection were really helpful
  • Connecting with other XP’s
  • Upfront topics were relevant
  • Dan Reiland’s Leadership Profile
  • Large Church Forum
  • My first XP-Seminar to attend and well worth it.  Thanks.
  • Hearing stories from or about the XP-SP relationships
  • Small Group Discussion on the impact of the economy
  • “Changing Hats” was an excellent discussion
  • You do a conference well—the notebook, content, organization, website, and communication were ALL top notch. I enjoyed the presentations and the people.
  • I learned quite a bit at the conference. I hope to steer our church into some strategic changes over the next 12-18 months
  • One-on-one time with others was great
  • “XP’s from business” talk
  • Hiring Practices
  • Great roundtable discussions
  • Great spirit – lighthearted but informative
  • Networking at tables with executive pastors at churches my size
  • Hiring practice information, current for my situation
  • Hearing from SP-XP teams, seeing their interaction
  • The life stories
  • The variety of ways to learn
  • Timeliness/adherence to schedule
  • Location – Great venue
  • Diverse/creative teaching styles
  • Practical, useful subjects
  • Expanded vision of what is possible
  • Look forward to attending next year with my XP so we can bounce ideas off each other
  • Practitioners as resource persons
  • The authenticity of the up-front interviews – i.e. real about challenges
  • The full use of the scheduled time
  • Being able to talk with others in similar situations
  • The casual, laid back atmosphere is easy to learn in
  • Availability of all who spoke for open question time
  • This was a polished, well-moving event
  • Q&A time in large and small group settings was good
  • Meeting people in similar sized churches
  • Hiring issues
  • Opportunity to ask questions concerning specific needs
  • Pushed me forward on my learning curve
  • Good conversation about using hiring consultants and assessment tools.
  • Using experts to advance churches (like David Lyons with Faith Promise)
  • Hendricks inspired me to rethink the way we are using and implementing gift-based work and tools
  • Great job facilitating so many egos!
  • I get more out of this every year I come!
  • Very high quality of speakers/presenters
  • Nice diversity in topics and presentations
  • Could be best of the five years!

"Things I would like
to change"

  • I wanted to attend three breakout sessions but could only get to two
  • Shame there isn’t more time
  • I’d like to see a session on the transition to an XP on staff
  • I know this is an XP Conference, but I see great value for more Senior Pastors to attend.
  • I would like to have the opportunity to take a third workshop Thursday afternoon
  • Just wish there was more time to go to all sessions!
  • May consider having Thursday workshops in the morning

"More Things I loved"

  • Commonality of experience
  • I appreciated the welcoming attitude of everyone there
  • The transition from business to XP role session
  • New friends
  • Leadership styles and how to maximize their use
  • Hiring practices case study – very insightful
  • Being with others who do what I do!
  • Mentoring – What is my motive?
  • Short “sprints” – I didn’t get fatigued
  • Wrote many notes, took away many ideas
  • Stimulating topic – hiring process (most at table didn’t have one)
  • Humor!
  • Highlighting real issues of XPs
  • Combined information with interaction.
  • Great!
  • Good workshops
  • My first conference and first week as an XP.  Excellent “centering” time for me
  • I liked the interaction style.  Lecture-only style leaves me bored at some conferences
  • Lunch with Senior Pastors. This was the best part—Mark and Curtis nailed it!
  • Great to come with my XP.  Great to see the mentoring he is getting to help him be more effective
  • Good takeaways from just about every session
  • This is an awesome ministry to XP’s.
  • Please continue doing this
  • Confirmation and edification for my role (different from all other pastors)
  • I like the format of small group discussion following the case study – very effective!
  • Appreciated the experience and wisdom of
  • Attorney Frank Sommerville
  • Encouragement to better define XP/SP roles and leadership
  • Love it!  It was great building relationships.
  • I enjoyed the passionate presentation of the PEACE plan.
  • Appreciate the breakfast and information by ECCU
  • Bill Hendrick’s presentation was awesome!
  • The best of all presentations
  • Excellent discussion on governance
  • David’s ability to direct the discussion with probing questions
  • Teamwork information:  very helpful
  • Authentic speakers who tell it like it is—warts and all
  • Thanks for the free books!
  • Several options for breakouts
  • The conversations and connections during break
