For a financial institution, Evangelical Christian Credit Union (ECCU) has a unique mission statement—to increase the effectiveness of evangelical ministries. They pursue this mission primarily by providing banking solutions, but an upcoming event underscores their commitment to offering more than just financial resources. In this case, the resource is a soul care retreat, offering pastors and ministry leaders a full day to learn about and experience spiritual renewal. Those attending will be introduced to things like “sacred reading” of Scripture, listening prayer, and reflective disciplines such as journaling. They’ll also spend some time alone reflecting on their spiritual journey and time with colleagues talking about these experiences and how they might benefit their ministries. Read more.
"As I’ve worked with many churches, I've been asked for help in certain areas of leadership. In particular the following topics continue to come up over and over again: hiring staff, working with your board, finances, developing your staff and lay leaders as well as other areas. I want to assist those who would like to become better equipped. Therefore, the Malphurs Group will offer several one day seminars on the following Mondays at a hotel near the D/FW Airport: October 6: How to Hire Staff and Survive to Celebrate It. November 3: How to Work With a Board. December 8: How to Raise Money for Your Ministry. Consider attending these seminars with your board or staff. Call Jennifer Walters at 469-585-2701 or e-mail her. The deadline to register for the October 6 seminar is September 18, 2008." —Aubrey Malphurs
Is it time for a church survey? The CHAT survey has gotten high marks for its ease of use and holistic approach to church health. You can complete the whole process in 30 days or less without hardly lifting a finger (except to click your mouse that is). It’s all conducted online and uses 10 biblically-based principles at the measurement grid. You’ll receive a full color report that’s easy to read and toplines the areas where your church is strong and the areas that need some attention. We give as much emphasis to the former as the latter aimed at making this is a productive listening, discussion, and planning exercise for your team rather than simply a report card on the church. Plus, the new revised CHAT survey gives you the option to add up to 10 custom questions. Use the XPastor code, RNXP, to save $100! Read more.
Can a website be relational? Evangelical Christian Credit Union (ECCU) thinks so. When ECCU set out to revise its website, it didn’t want to merely change the look—it wanted to change the message. Now, instead of simply being a portal to find information, ECCU’s new website is a relationship-based resource for ministries. Read more.

Alan is the editor of Rev! magazine: LC Groups are for strategic peer learning among an invitation-only group of 6-12 church leaders, who meet to share ideas with colleagues. Most communities have a few lead churches that provide significant influence and ministry impact ... The purpose of LC Groups is to gather pastors and staff members of extra large congregations, within the same metro or regional areas, for facilitated but open ended, 1-day meetings to share ideas, resources, brainstorm solutions, and occasionally provide strategic support and encouragement. Read more about LC Groups.
For a flat $25,000 Ardent does searches like Children's Pastor, Executive Pastor, CFO, and so forth. It doesn't do searches for Youth Pastor (they have too little experience usually to know if they'll do a truly excellent job), Worship Pastor (so creative they usually are not good managers) and Women's Ministries (women are usually to hard to move due to family considerations) ... but otherwise most pastor searches that are below the level that the Dingman Company works at.
