The Leadership Audit

The Audit is a three-day comprehensive top-to-bottom analysis of the situational leadership in your church. The first eight hours are spent off-site, gathering and evaluating data about your church by e-mail and telephone interviews. The second and third day is on-site, interviewing and discussing issues with your leadership team. A five to fifteen page "situation analysis" presents the findings and recommendations.

Administrator Factors

• Who is managing the church? What financial controls and reports are in place?
• What is the status of each person's job description and how accurate is each description?
• What is the church's organizational chart and does it fit the current size, culture and vision of the church?
• What are the core documents and are they up-to-date and relevant?

Catalyst Factors

• Who is instigating change and "stirring up" ministry?
• What is the rate of change in the organization? Are people being stretched or are there dying ministries?
• What are the "busing" issues? "Bus" is Jim Collins' concept for "who is on the staff bus?" and "are they in the right seat?"

Mentor Factors

• Who is developing staff to function at their best? Is staff development haphazard or planned? Who is mentoring the staff and key volunteers?
• What happens at staff retreats & regular meetings? Is this the best use of team communication and development?
• Who is hiring new staff and are "best practices/legal practices" being used?
• Is there a plan for leadership succession?

Minister Factors

• How much direct ministry is done by your key leaders? Is this in line with church vision and goals?
• Is there open or hidden conflict in the church?

Overseer Factors

• Do your leaders have unmet expectations for the staff? Has the XP-Indicator been used to examine management and leadership issues?

• What is the church's vision statement and how is it integrated into the life of the church?
