Barry Thompson

Barry is a native of Lithia Springs, Georgia. "My dear wife of over thirty years is Kay. She is a partner in ministry and we have been blessed with two outstanding grown children." Micah graduated from college and owns a Coldstone Ice Cream store (Barry often enjoys the blessing of ice cream). Carmen is a senior at the University of Georgia. Both are seeking to follow God's leadership in their lives.

Barry attended Truett McConnell College in north Georgia and graduated from Mercer University with a degree in psychology. He earned a Masters in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

Barry served Brookhaven Baptist Church and MacArthur Boulevard Baptist Church in areas of Youth, Recreation and Education ministry through college and seminary. From 1980 to 1987 he served at Dunwoody Baptist Church (Atlanta, Georgia) as Minister of Education & Administration From 1987 to 2005 he served New Hope Baptist Church (Fayetteville Georgia) as Executive Pastor. He is currently at Mount Vernon Baptist Church (Sandy Springs, Georgia) as Executive Pastor.

Barry has led growth and education conferences for Georgia Baptist Convention, Lifeway Services, John Maxwell Ministries, and various Baptist Associations in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, and Texas.

He is in his fifteenth year as a member of the Board of Trustees for Truett McConnell College and in his fifth year as a member of the Board of Trustees for Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
