Dr. Milfred Minatrea

Missiologist and Urban Ministry Strategist

Milfred is founding director of the Missional Church Center and author of Shaped By God’s Heart: the Passion and Practices of Missional Churches, published by Jossey-Bass. He has also written numerous articles on the church’s role in God’s mission and served as contributing author and editor of Hands on Ministry, which equips laypersons in pastoral care skills for effective ministry. As director of the Missional Church Center, Minatrea coaches churches and individuals in their quest to live God’s mission, leads experiential seminars exploring the missional culture and spiritual formation for authentic discipleship, networks church leaders who are journeying toward a missional posture and joins them as a fellow learner in Christ’s mission.

Experienced in church consultation, Minatrea has assisted more than 1,400 churches of varying denominations in clarifying vision and developing strategies to advance their accomplishment of God’s path from current reality toward His preferred future. A communicator of the Good News, he has served numerous churches as interim pastor helping them find fresh direction for ministry during periods of transition.

As a missiologist and urban ministry practitioner, Minatrea previously served in Executive Staff positions with Baptist General Convention of Texas and Dallas Baptist Association. Prior to serving in those ministries, he was senior pastor of churches in Texas. Minatrea earned a Doctor of Ministry in Missions Administration from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.

Minatrea enjoys walking the streets of the world’s urban centers, finding wonderful “hole in the wall (mom and pop) restaurants,” playing a rather poor game of golf and reading.
He is married to Pam and they have three adult children and five grandchildren. Beyond loving his family, he is passionate about being real as a disciple of Jesus and walking with others on that journey.
