“It is my passion to help church leaders hone their leadership and management skills.”
Since his earliest days of ministry, Dr. David Fletcher has been called to serve his local church. He served for 26 years at a church in Dallas, Texas, and four years in a church in Austin before joining the leadership team of The Chapel in Akron, Ohio, where he currently serves as Executive Pastor. The Chapel has a membership of more than 6,000 across three campuses, in addition to a summer camp on 350 acres. Read more about The Chapel and his role.
Dr. Fletcher draws on his extensive experience as an XP to run XPastor.org, a global ministry tool for leaders of churches of all sizes. The site began as a place to host Fletcher’s useful XP ministry tool, the XP-Indicator, along with articles based on his XP research. Traffic to the site increased steadily, as did the content available; XPastor.org now gets tens of thousands of visits monthly and holds thousands of pages of free information to help church leaders. XPastor.org also provides other services, such as the annual XP-Seminar, workshops and mentoring to church leaders. Read the mission of XPastor.
His latest endeavor is 5Macro.com. That site hosts the People Patterns Indicator, a way of learning about how we lead others. Kregel will publish the book, People Patterns, in the fall of 2011.
An accomplished executive pastor, professor of doctoral ministry and an expert on church marketing, management and leadership, Fletcher’s focus remains on serving the local church, whether that church is in the Mid-western United States, Eastern Asia or anywhere in between. “XPastor.org has grown into a ministry tool for churches internationally,” Fletcher says. “At the same time, my first love is my local church. Everything else I do spreads out in concentric circles from that calling.”
As an undergraduate, Dr. Fletcher received special permission to take classes at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California. Later he received degrees from Dallas Theological Seminary, and took executive education classes at the Kellogg School of Management and the Harvard Business School. In the beginning of his ministry, he worked with Jim Rose, the noted Bible communicator. Fletcher comments, "It is a tremendous joy to be now partnering with one of the foremost of Bible expositors, Paul Sartarelli. What a great joy to serve with some of the great preachers in the American church."
Dr. Fletcher teaches XPastor concepts to Doctor of Ministry students at the Dallas Theological Seminary, where he is an adjunct professor and facilitator of the XP/AP track of the D.Min program. He is also a professor and the Director of the Doctor of Ministries Program at the Evangelical Theological Seminary of India. Since the time he inaugurated the program, it has doubled in size each year. Fletcher has brought in world class authors as guest professors, such as Dr. Darrell Bock and Dr. Gene Getz. Now it is the largest D.Min. program in India.
ETS and DTS are the only seminaries in the world that have programs that exclusively use the “case study method” of teaching, which Fletcher introduced into the seminaries from the secular educational environment. Patterned on the methodology of Harvard’s Business, Law and Medicine graduate schools, case studies are a proven method for in-depth learning and research.
Fletcher is also certified in the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and the Taylor-Johnson Temperament Analysis. He has been trained in conflict resolution, mediation and arbitration by Peacemaker Ministries.
As part of his international outreach and missionary work, Fletcher is treasurer for the American Council of the Asian Christian Academy. He has served on the ACA board since 1991.
When he’s not actively involved in ministry and teaching in Texas, Ohio, India or wherever the Lord’s work takes him, David loves to bicycle and exercise with his wife, Tami—and of course scuba diving!
They are "pleased and proud" of their two children. Jason, and his wife Erin, are graduates of the School of the Art Institute Chicago. They live in Boston where Jason is a computer animator for the planetarium at the Boston Museum of Science. Lauren, and her husband Josiah, have been graduated from Stephen F. Austin University and started a business in Austin, Texas.
Dr. Fletcher says, “My door is always open. Contact me with your question"
